Beatport: the antithesis of iTunes
So, I’m not the biggest fan of paying for shit. Be it movies, music, or programs, I usually just torrent the bjesus out of anything that piques my interest. I spend countless hours a week finding the best rips of the newest leaks, and pride myself on my download ratio. I laugh in the face of iTunes users, snort at record shops, and produce some hearty guffaws at people who use Amazon — wait, what the fuck? Who the fuck uses Amazon Music anyway? rofl.
HOWEVER, there is one site, the end all be all of music vendors, that has converted me. Believe it or not, this site, beatport.com, makes me want to spend money. If you’re into electronic music of ANY kind, and I do mean any, this is the site you need to be at. All of the music you can’t find in your local HMV, in iTunes, or EVEN ANYWHERE ELSE ONLINE — it’s been here for months, years even.
And that, for me, was it’s biggest selling point. Beatport
has been around since 2004, and keeps in constant contact with artists, grabbing up any remixes, singles, or random bullshit they decide to put out. Then, in the next 24 hours, its available on their site. I swear to God, I’ve been at a loss for words when countless searches on the top torrent sites yielded zero search results for albums or tracks that I wanted. The frustration was unbearable. Then, I found Beatport, and all my troubles melted away like ice cream — in your truck, in the summer, that you forget up under the seat, and just managed to find yesterday, and got really pissed about.
But, I digress! Just take a look around the site. Yes, it costs a couple of bucks to buy a monster remix, and yeah, albums are like $6. But cmon man, for the availability, and the amount of work these people go through to get any and all electronic music on their site, it’s worth it for me to sacrifice my daily coffee, and support these fuckers when I want some rare music.
